SUMMARY:Chicago – Tian-Lineage Jingui Yaolue Pulse Diagnosis
DESCRIPTION:Diagnosis in Han-dynasty was primarily done by taking the pulse. Every formula can be identified through one or more pulse patterns presenting in the patient. Though many pulses are mentioned in the Jingui Yaolue\, crucial detail is often hidden\, and it is as if this knowledge is merely implicitly present\, as if it were embedded. Therefore\, the Tian Heming Canonical Formula lineage’s main strength and contribution to the field of Chinese medicine to have made this advanced knowledge on pulse diagnosis crystal clear and evident. This knowledge has never been recorded in any book\, but was rather transmitted orally from Dr. Tian Heming through Dr. Zeng Rongxiu to Dr. Arnaud Versluys. The latter of which has been teaching this material around the world in more systematized and structured format since a few years. \nNote regarding the Shanghan Lun and Jingui Yaolue Pulse Seminars: due to the proprietary and complex nature of these seminars\, they cannot be registered for individually and can only be taken as part of the total sequence. The pulse seminars are open for individual registration only to Diplomates of Canonical Chinese Medicine already certified by our institute who wish to retake the seminar.

SUMMARY:Chicago - Shanghan Lun Abdominal Diagnosis Fukushin
DESCRIPTION:Japanese abdominal diagnosis or Fukushin is the diagnostic art developed in medieval Japan based on the canonical writings by Zhang Zhongjing. Careful inspection of the Shanghan Zabing Lun reveals countless references to abdominal conditions that could only have been diagnosed by actual palpation of the abdomen. The skill however never fully developed in China but flourished in Japan. Throughout history\, two major trends and types of abdominal diagnosis developed\, being the Nanjing and Shanghan Lun schools\, which respectively diagnose the abdomen in service of either acupuncture or meridian treatment\, and herbal treatment. Fukushin refers specifically to Shanghan Lun style of abdominal diagnosis developed by Japanese scholars during Edo period (1603-1867 CE) for the purpose of prescribing the Han dynasty formulas of Zhang Zhongjing.

DESCRIPTION:The Treatise on Cold Damage shanghan lun is the oldest surviving clinical handbook in the history of Chinese medicine. Written by Eastern Han dynasty (circa 200 CE) imperial envoy Zhang Zhongjing\, it is an integral part of his collective writings once labeled the Treatise on Cold Damage and Complex Diseases shanghan zabing lun. But the contents of the Shanghan Lun as we know it in current day is far from complete. The present versions studied in Chinese medical schools as well as in the West\, do not include the original first three chapters of Rules for Pulse Differentiation bianmai fa\, Rules on Pulse Assessment pingmai fa and Cold Damage Outline shanghan li. Regardless whatever motivation was behind the historical deletions of these passages\, of the aforementioned chapters\, the chapters on pulse instructions are crucial for anyone desiring to fully grasp Zhang Zhongjing’s clinical instructions. Especially since the pulse patterns maizheng form the core diagnostic parameters in the establishment of the formula patterns fangzheng by which the canonical clinician categorizes disease and therapy. \nNote regarding the Shanghan Lun and Jingui Yaolue Pulse Seminars: due to the proprietary and complex nature of these seminars\, they cannot be registered for individually and can only be taken as part of the total sequence. DESCRIPTION:Chapter seventy-four of the Great Treatise on the Essence of the Utmost Truth zhizhen yaodalun of the Inner Classic of the Yellow Emperor huangdi neijing records the most encompassing and original rules in Chinese medicine pathology. The nineteen patterns\, most commonly known as the Nineteen Lines on Pathology\, are considered to be the most authoritative instructions on classical etio-pathology and the only discourse where a differentiation method based on the five phase energetics is presented. \nThere is great difficulty in understanding these instructions\, because they cannot be researched from merely a more modern Qing dynasty organ differentiation standpoint that we are most accustomed to. As such\, the only path to full understanding of the lines is an evaluation from all possible angles in classical Chinese medicine thinking. This evaluation will be engaged in by cross-referencing other classics like the Classic of Difficulties nan jing\, as well as later commentaries by masters like Zhang Jingyue\, etc. \nThe lines are structured along a twofold grid: the first outline along the five solid organs; while the second outline is arranged along the six Qi or six climatic influences. During the course\, all Solid Organ patterns will be studied and explained along with the most representative lines on the Six Qi. As such\, this course will provide the participant with a definitive understanding on classical Chinese medicine pathology and an excellent tool for the evaluation of difficult cases in clinic.
