Non-diplomates\, please email aversluys@iceam.org to register.] \nCourse Description:\nThis advanced seminar builds on the Shanghan Lun Pulse Diagnosis seminar that is part of the Diplomate training. The basic pulse diagnosis seminar provides the student with a selection of relevant instructions on Han dynasty pulse theory\, as well as the basic primary and sometimes secondary pulse presentations for a core selection of Shanghan Lun formulas. This advanced seminar subsequently provides a greater depth of theoretical understanding\, along with the FULL list of primary\, secondary\, and\, if applicable\, tertiary pulses for ALL Shanghan Lun formulas\, including the most obscure and never-discussed prescriptions. \nThe transmission of the pulses will be given in the same order in which Dr. Tian transmitted them to his disciples in 1970\, the last time he ever did so. This allows us to follow along with his train of thought. Furthermore\, the seminar is replete with direct quotes from Dr. Tian on the meaning of the pulses for each formula. It is as if Dr. Tian is talking to us directly! Included in the seminar are Dr. Tian’s pulse-only based modification instructions for each formula. These were not included in the Tian Modification seminar before. \nThe general outline of the course is first an integral line-by-line instruction of the Pulse Differentiation Methods (bianmai fa) chapter of the original Shanghan Lun\, followed by Dr. Tian’s specific pulse theory\, including the pulse poems recorded in the Zeng family notebooks. Lastly\, every pulse for every Shanghan Lun formula will be instructed. \nThe seminar is open to Diplomates and any student who has successfully completed the Shanghan Lun pulse diagnosis seminar. There is nothing to be learned beyond this. The seminar has been many years in development\, and it is finally being delivered live. It will not be made available as a recording. The Shanghan Lun Pulse Advanced is the first part and will be followed by the Jingui Pulse Advanced in the coming years. Every formula can be identified through one or more pulse patterns presenting in the patient. Though many pulses are mentioned in the Jingui Yaolue\, crucial detail is often hidden\, and it is as if this knowledge is merely implicitly present\, as if it were embedded. Therefore\, the Tian lineage’s main strength and contribution to the field of Chinese medicine is to have made this advanced knowledge on pulse diagnosis crystal clear and evident. \nThis knowledge has never been recorded in any book\, but was rather transmitted orally from Dr. Tian Heming through Dr. Zeng Rongxiu to Dr. Arnaud Versluys. This seminar is Dr. Arnaud Versluys’ core instruction in the Tian Lineage® Jingui Yaolue Pulse Diagnosis. As a senior lineage holder of the Tian Lineage and the current head of the Tian-Zeng Lineage\, Dr. Versluys is the only person authorized and capable of teaching this intricate system of Jingui Yaolue Pulse Diagnosis and has been teaching this material around the world in more systematized and structured format since more than 15 years. \nThe Jingui Yaolue Pulse Diagnosis weekend will introduce the student to the pulse patterns associated with all the formulas taught in Jingui weekends 1 through 3. This will enable the practitioner to diagnose and prescribe directly from the pulse as usually performed by canonical masters of yore. While in the Tian Lineage Shanghan Lun Pulse Diagnosis seminar\, the pulses are very linear and structured along the six conformations\, Jingui Yaolue Pulse Diagnosis teaches the pulses associated with the Complex Diseases zabing\, which are more thorny and non-linear\, and thus reflect the complicated and convoluted nature of the diseases.
