We will begin with a brief review of the basics of 6 conformation theory and the febrile response and its importance in autoimmune disease. \nDuring this lecture we will examine the classical understanding of the immune response\, and how this can be used to understand acute flares of autoimmune diseases and their progression to chronic pathologies. We will explore the key principles of managing acute flares\, the long-term treatment of the underlying chronic state\, and the important transition between the two when moving out of a flare and back into the long-term treatment \nWe will then discuss common treatments and progressions in a number of the most commonly seen autoimmune diseases\, including rheumatoid arthritis\, crohns disease and ulcerative colitis\, autoimmune thyroid issues\, multiple sclerosis\, among others. \nThe aim of this lecture is not to merely give protocols for certain diseases\, but to help the practitioner understand the principles of treating autoimmune diseases so they are better able to analyze\, understand and treat the multitude of presentations that will come their way in clinic.

SUMMARY:Chicago - Tian-Lineage Shanghan Lun Pulse Diagnosis
DESCRIPTION:The Treatise on Cold Damage shanghan lun is the oldest surviving clinical handbook in the history of Chinese medicine. Written by Eastern Han dynasty (circa 200 CE) imperial envoy Zhang Zhongjing\, it is an integral part of his collective writings once labeled the Treatise on Cold Damage and Complex Diseases shanghan zabing lun. But the contents of the Shanghan Lun as we know it in current day is far from complete. The present versions studied in Chinese medical schools as well as in the West\, do not include the original first three chapters of Rules for Pulse Differentiation bianmai fa\, Rules on Pulse Assessment pingmai fa and Cold Damage Outline shanghan li. Regardless whatever motivation was behind the historical deletions of these passages\, of the aforementioned chapters\, the chapters on pulse instructions are crucial for anyone desiring to fully grasp Zhang Zhongjing’s clinical instructions. Especially since the pulse patterns maizheng form the core diagnostic parameters in the establishment of the formula patterns fangzheng by which the canonical clinician categorizes disease and therapy. \nNote regarding the Shanghan Lun and Jingui Yaolue Pulse Seminars: due to the proprietary and complex nature of these seminars\, they cannot be registered for individually and can only be taken as part of the total sequence. SUMMARY:Portland - Tian-Lineage Jingui Yaolue Pulse Diagnosis
DESCRIPTION:Diagnosis in Han-dynasty was primarily done by taking the pulse. Every formula can be identified through one or more pulse patterns presenting in the patient. Though many pulses are mentioned in the Jingui Yaolue\, crucial detail is often hidden\, and it is as if this knowledge is merely implicitly present\, as if it were embedded. Therefore\, the Tian Heming Canonical Formula lineage’s main strength and contribution to the field of Chinese medicine to have made this advanced knowledge on pulse diagnosis crystal clear and evident. This knowledge has never been recorded in any book\, but was rather transmitted orally from Dr. Tian Heming through Dr. Zeng Rongxiu to Dr. Arnaud Versluys.
