Thank you. \n  \n\n\nCourse Descriptions:\nDr. Tian’s Method of Perfect Conclusion shanshou\, and Formula Equivalencies\nDr. Tian’s understanding of canonical formulas allowed him to always know which formula should be followed by which other formula to both stabilize results\, as well as treat concomitant or residual conditions. His ability to do so was because of his advanced understanding of how formulas can be equivalent to each other\, and therefore used in sequence. \nThe model of Formula Equivalency instructs on the treatment of identical or highly similar diseases or clinical presentations\, with architecturally very different formulas. Zhang Zhongjing himself implicitly introduced the concept of Formula Equivalency in Shanghan Lun lines 69 and 82; 91 and 92; 42 and 225\, as well as in the Jingui Yaolue Chest Obstruction chapter\, etc. \nFor this seminar\, Dr. Versluys has organized all the equivalent formulas of Zhang Zhongjing along the aforementioned classifications of Interior-Exterior\, Hot-Cold\, Excess-Deficient\, Functional-Material\, and Qi-Water-Blood. The study of such\norganization will shed new light on previously known formulas and solve clinical problems when a certain formula is not producing results in clinic\, allowing the practitioner to gain insight in which other prescription is clinically equivalent\, essentially treating the same illness\, but from a different angle of approach\, be it more functional versus material\, supplementing versus moving\, etc\, all while staying within the framework of Zhang Zhongjing’s canonical prescriptions. \nThe seminar presents the next level of insight into the canonical formulas for the already serious Chinese herbalist with a background in classical prescriptions. But when reading the classics of Chinese medicine\, not much has been written about it. As such it becomes undeniably pressing to revisit said organ to discover more about its significance as a member of the court of twelve organ officials of classical times. \nDr. Versluys has spent years looking into this subject matter and discovered that the small intestine is actually the most important organ in the body\, second to the Heart. Both organs belong to the Imperial Fire of the South\, but the Heart is considered inaccessible and off-limits to direct treatment. As such\, the Small Intestine becomes the most important organ to treatment in pathologies pertaining to the governance of blood and the supply of fire in the body. \nIn this seminar\, Versluys will present the culmination of his many years of research\, explaining the physiology of the Small Intestine in relation to the three aspects of qi\, water and blood\, and explain how the many treatments said to affect the Mingmen\,\nactually treat the Small Intestine. Examples of herbs and formulas treating the Small Intestine will be used to give insight into its workings and its diseases. DESCRIPTION:The Shanghan Zabing Lun or the Treatise on Cold Damage and Complex Diseases is considered the forefather of all formula books. The original work was lost to the tooth of time\, but most of its contents are preserved in two extant works called the Treatise on Cold Damage shanghan lun and the Concise Essentials of the Golden Cabinet jingui yaolue. The first work primarily addresses externally triggered disorders while the latter work describes the pathology and treatment of complex diseases generated internally.

SUMMARY:Chicago - Nineteen Lines on Pathology
DESCRIPTION:Chapter seventy-four of the Great Treatise on the Essence of the Utmost Truth zhizhen yaodalun of the Inner Classic of the Yellow Emperor huangdi neijing records the most encompassing and original rules in Chinese medicine pathology. The nineteen patterns\, most commonly known as the Nineteen Lines on Pathology\, are considered to be the most authoritative instructions on classical etio-pathology and the only discourse where a differentiation method based on the five phase energetics is presented. \nThere is great difficulty in understanding these instructions\, because they cannot be researched from merely a more modern Qing dynasty organ differentiation standpoint that we are most accustomed to. As such\, the only path to full understanding of the lines is an evaluation from all possible angles in classical Chinese medicine thinking. This evaluation will be engaged in by cross-referencing other classics like the Classic of Difficulties nan jing\, as well as later commentaries by masters like Zhang Jingyue\, etc. \nThe lines are structured along a twofold grid: the first outline along the five solid organs; while the second outline is arranged along the six Qi or six climatic influences. During the course\, all Solid Organ patterns will be studied and explained along with the most representative lines on the Six Qi. As such\, this course will provide the participant with a definitive understanding on classical Chinese medicine pathology and an excellent tool for the evaluation of difficult cases in clinic.
